Description

Idle databases are SQL Databases that have very little DTU activity over the past 30 days. These databases can typically be downscaled or even deleted to save costs.

Criteria

To be considered Idle, a service must fill the following criteria:

  • Average DTU usage for the database is under 5% for every hour over the past 30 days

How to apply

Option 1: Downscale the database

Step 1: To apply this recommendation, click on "View in Portal" to open the Azure Portal on the correct resource.

Step 2: Click on "Pricing Tiers (scale DTUs)" in the menu and select a smaller instance size:

Option 2: Delete the database

Step 1: To apply this recommendation, click on "View in Portal" to open the Azure Portal on the correct resource.

Step 2: Click on "Overview" on the right side then click on "Delete" in the top header. IMPORTANT: before deleting make sure that you really no longer need this database and that you have a backup available. A delete operation is permanent and cannot be undone.
